Handmade and hand decorated paper from Nepal. This sheet uses the traditional technique of batik but creating the design by adding wax as a resist and then hand dying the paper. The wax will resist the dye and leave that part of the paper translucent.
Lokta is strong and versatile. It can be painted on with most media but also drawn on. It can be cut, stamped and of course glued, it is a great paper for paper crafters, collage artists, decoupage and bookmakers, as well as for printmaking. But it also makes a unique and special gift wrap or for other decorative uses.
This base paper is Lokta, made from the Daphne plant, commonly known as the Lokta plant. It is seasonally harvested from the base of the Himalayas and grows back each year. It is then hand process and made into pulp, the same way it has been made for centuries.
Photo is a 4" x 4" section of the sheet
